In the framework of the evolving relations between Doha and Freetown, Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio began an official visit to Qatar and it is anticipated that the visit would contribute to supporting and solidifying the bilateral relations in numerous fields, including economic and investment sectors for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani is expected to meet the Sierra Leone president in the Amiri Diwan to further discuss strengthening of bilateral relations and ways of boosting co-operation aspects between the two countries, in addition to discussing a range of issues of mutual concern.
The visit is of particular importance in view of the distinctive role undertaken by Qatar at the regional level which has succeeded during the past years in extending co-operation and co-ordination bridges, in addition to partnering with many African countries, including development, humanitarian and relief role which underscores the policies of Qatar, including its various agencies and institutions within the African continent, especially during calamities, disasters and times of crisis.
Qatar-Sierra Leone relations have evolved and grown based on mutual respect and exchange of joint interests between the two peoples and countries, as the consecutive and the exchanged visits between the two countries have significantly contributed to strengthening these relations and opening new prospects for co-operation and co-ordination between the two countries.
In April 2018, President Julius Maada Bio carried out the first visit to Qatar since his inauguration in that year. During the talks session, they discussed bilateral relations and prospects of promoting the co-operation between the two countries, particularly in agriculture, education, tourism and infrastructure spheres, in addition to boosting investment opportunities. The discussions also addressed the major issues at the regional and international arenas.

QFFD had signed seven agreements last March to support education sector in a number of least developed countries, including Sierra Leone for the sake of offering good education opportunities for out-of-school children (OOSC) and enroll them in regular schools via the global program of the Education Above All Foundation (Educate A child).
