Doha Municipality has adopted a plan to address any violations of the Public Hygiene Law No 18 of 2017 during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 later this year, including reports of throwing garbage, abandoned vehicles, violating advertisements and infringements at public squares, among others.
Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani, director of the general control section at Doha Municipality, said that inspectors at the section will focus on the key areas of Doha as there are two stadiums that fall within the jurisdiction of the municipality – Al Thumama Stadium and Stadium 974.
He stressed that Doha Municipality is keen to fully prepare and spruce up these areas for visitors, while at the same time giving the same attention to all other places within the municipality.
Al-Shahwani noted that the section's inspectors will work in two shifts, from 12 noon until 10pm and from 10pm until 5am, in addition to having a dedicated number of inspectors assigned to receive any related complaints or reports.
Further, the administrative employees will continue to work during the morning shift.
Al-Shahwani pointed out that the general control section has carried out intensive awareness campaigns to stress the need for business and shop owners to get a valid licence for their advertisements and announcements from the municipality.
This has contributed significantly towards reducing the number of related violations by over 60%.
