The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has reminded truck owners to complete installing tracking devices before August 1 to get permits for entering sewage treatment plants. In February 2022, Ashghal announced a new mandatory requirement for tankers and started receiving applications on March 1. Tanker owners who request for tracking device installation will be given a SIM card for each tanker through Ashghal Customer Service, Salwa Road branch. On receiving the SIM card, the tanker owner will be required to complete all data mentioned in the form provided and e-mail it to: avltankersupport@ashghal.gov.qa
The device will be linked with the vehicle tracking system in Ashghal as soon as the information is provided by e-mail. In case there is a complication, a member of the technical support team will contact the individual/company concerned.More information on tracking devices, required documents or the application process is available from the website, http://www.ashghal.gov.qa, and/or by calling 188.The requirement of the tracking device installation aims to monitor the tankers and ensure they discharge sewage only at designated plants and not in random or prohibited areas. This will be in addition to controlling their movement during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Ashghal has said in a statement. The new system will contribute to monitoring the movement of tankers on an ongoing basis and help reduce violations of environmental laws. It will also reduce the distance that tankers travel across Qatar by determining their locations and proximity to treatment plants.Ashghal has said that a period of five months will be given to tanker owners, whether companies or individuals. Starting from August 1, Ashghal will stop accepting applications or renewing permits for tankers, and tankers will not be able to fill or discharge treated sewage effluent in its affiliated plants without providing evidence of a proven and effective tracking device. No tankers will be allowed entry without an installed tracking device after this period.
