The Embassy of Nepal, in collaboration with Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Qatar, recently organised an awareness programme for the community.
Titled ‘Remittance and Financial Literacy’, the event at the embassy hall was attended by nearly 70 representatives of various Nepali community organisations in Qatar.

The aim was to impart basic knowledge on the role of remittance and the benefits of using official banking channels for sending remittance back home. NRNA Qatar chairman Mohamed Muktda Musalman welcomed the gathering.
Ratna Raj Bajracharya, CEO of Global IME Bank Limited in Nepal and Khilendra Paudel, CEO of IME Limited Nepal, delivered keynote addresses virtually. Bajracharya highlighted the importance of remittance in Nepal’s economy, especially in reinforcing foreign reserves.

Paudel said transmitting remittance through formal banking channels is the main way of contributing to the economy. Hemraj Subedi, representative of Global IME Bank Limited and Dipendra Paudel, representative of IME Limited, also touched upon the incentives provided by the Government of Nepal to facilitate remittance flow.
The programme also included a question-answer session regarding the practical aspects of remittance, savings and transmitting remittances. Nepal embassy charge d'affaires Lakshuman Khanal thanked the speakers and participants.
