Qatar Forum for Authors Reviews Influence of Language Academies

The Qatari Forum for Authors discussed Sunday the title at hand "the Arabic language and the need for language academies" within the second episode of the "Your Languages" initiative presented by the linguistic expert Dr Ahmed al-Janabi and the media man Dr Abdullah Faraj al-Marzouqi.
The forum broadcasts the episodes on its channels on social media every Sunday evening.During the episode, Dr al-Marzouqi said that the number of Arabic language academies in the Arab world amounted to about 15, and they have performed their role best, especially with the entry of a set of modern and updated terms keeping pace with technological developments; stressing that the Qur'an remains the main reference to find out if the new terms are in accordance with the rules of the language, and pointing out that it is possible to sculpt from the language, and that there are some differences between universities and scholars about some terms, this difference makes the language more spacious and expansive.He explained that the most important thing that distinguishes the Arabic language is its beauty and richness, and that it is a fertile ground for creativity, calling for the establishment of an Arabic language academy to be the first in the region, different from other universities in terms of curriculum, not only focusing on linguistic errors, but also a space for rapprochement between different cultures and languages, especially languages that adopt the handwriting of the Arabic alphabet, where there are about twenty-five languages in the world whose words are written by Arabic letters handwriting, as well as the establishment of educational institutions affiliated to the academy in order to consider Doha as the Arab capital that promotes our mother tongue and restores its glories.Dr al-Marzouqi also called for the allocation of a Qatari Arabic language day to be part of the state's vision to promote and protect the Arabic language, and to strengthen the Arabic language protection law issued in 2019.For his part, Dr al-Janabi underscored that the project of protecting the Arabic language requires the concerted efforts of all parties, especially educational institutions that must pay more attention to the Arabic language.
