The Speaker of the Council of the Nation of Algeria, Salah Goudjil, met on Saturday with HE Maryam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah, the President of the Doha-based Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, and her accompanying delegation.
According to a statement by the Arab Network, the meeting discussed a number of issues related to human rights and topics of mutual concern.
During the meeting, Goudjil praised the distinguished relations between Qatar and Algeria.
He underlined that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune attaches priority to the protection of human rights, individual and collective freedoms, and the right of citizens to a decent life in Algeria.
For her part, HE al-Attiyah praised the efforts currently undertaken by Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which seek to establish the parameters of the state of law and law.
She affirmed her intention to promote ways of co-operation with the National Council of Human Rights in Algeria by organising training programmes and exchanging support that can be provided in human rights, in addition to exchanging experiences gained in the two countries.
The President of the Constitutional Court of Algeria, Omar Belhadj, also met with HE al-Attiyah.
The meeting reviewed the relations between Algeria and Qatar and ways to enhance them in all fields, especially in constitutional justice.
Belhadj emphasised the depth of the reforms that Algeria is witnessing, aimed at consolidating the rule of law and law in the country, and preserving and safeguarding human rights, noting in this regard the supportive articles of the new constitution to promote and protect human rights.
For her part, HE al-Attiyah underlined that countries are now drawing strength and consolidating their civilization by the respect and protection of human rights, adding that this matter requires strengthening the protection and advancing of human rights principles through building national institutions that have all the powers that qualify them to play their roles and achieve their messages in spreading and establishing a culture of human rights.
The President of the Algerian People's National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, also met with HE al-Attiyah, and reviewed the prospects of human rights in Algeria and the Arab world.
Boughali stressed the need to intensify efforts and exchange experiences and expertise in a way that contributes to advancing the work and efforts of human rights organisations and bodies in the Arab countries to the highest levels, noting the role played by the People's National Assembly in supporting all endeavours aimed at promoting human rights at the Arab level.
HE al-Attiyah praised Algeria's efforts and its achievements in the field of human rights, and expressed her admiration for the space of freedom enjoyed by the National Council of Human Rights in Algeria, especially through the consolidation of its financial and administrative independence, which is a prerequisite for the recognition, acceptance and classification of NHRI's as member institutions of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).
She also called for more co-operation and exchange of experiences to consolidate the strong relations between the Arab Network for Human Rights and the National Council of Human Rights in Algeria.
