Cristiano Ronaldo arrived back at Manchester United’s training ground yesterday ahead of talks with new manager Erik ten Hag over his Old Trafford future. The 37-year-old, who missed the club’s pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia for personal reasons, wants to leave the club he rejoined last year.
He arrived at United’s Carrington training base with his agent Jorge Mendes. Former United manager Alex Ferguson was also seen arriving. New United manager Ten Hag said earlier this month that Ronaldo was “not for sale”. The former Real Madrid and Juventus player finished as United’s top-scorer last season with 24 goals. But the campaign was a huge disappointment for the club, who finished sixth in the Premier League, missing out on Champions League qualification.
United start their Premier League campaign at home to Brighton on August 7 after final pre-season games this weekend against Atletico Madrid in Norway and Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag talks convinced him to join Man United: Eriksen
Manchester United’s Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen said manager Erik ten Hag’s vision for the Premier League giants played a big role in convincing him to join them on a free transfer last month. Eriksen, who needed life-saving treatment on the pitch last year when he suffered a near-fatal cardiac arrest in a European Championship game against Finland in June, made the move after returning to action with top-flight side Brentford in January.
He had previously trained with the reserves of Ten Hag’s former team Ajax Amsterdam to build his fitness and said that speaking to the Dutch manager helped him make up his mind. “I’m a guy who wants to play football and I think, with the idea of the manager coming in and the ideas he had and with my conversations with him, I could see myself playing football in Manchester,” Eriksen told the club website.
“At the same time, it’s a big club — if not the biggest. If you pronounce it anywhere, they know where it’s from, they know where the locals come from. It has a big history and it’s a nice feeling to be part of something that is that big in history.”
