The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) Youth Wing organised World Youth Skills Day (July 15) celebrations, showcasing a mix of skill and talent.
The event had many firsts in the history of ICC, and one of them was to recognise young achievers, a press statement noted.
Adhrika Manikandan Nair graduated with Honours and the Order of Excellence. She was the proud recipient of the Distinguished Student Award from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani for her distinguished performance from Qatar University.



In another proud moment for all young Indians, Anvi Amit Joshi (14) and studying in Oryx International School, reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895m in Tanzania. He has been trekking since the age of seven years.
Yet another young achiever identified was Dr Harshita Shailesh, who received her PhD from Qatar University upon completion of her thesis on proliferative signaling in breast cancer. However, she couldn’t attend the evening due to personal reasons.
The felicitation ceremony was steered by Krishna Kumar Bandhakavi, general secretary; and mementos were presented by Xavier Dhanaraj, first secretary and co-ordinating officer of ICC at the Indian embassy; along with Sonny Varghese, guest of honour; Dr Kavitah Mustafa, PhD, professor, Anna University; ICC president P N Baburajan and ICC advisory chair K S Prasad.
The evening also saw impressive performances, which took place in the presence of Indian community leaders Vinod Nair, ICBF president; Mahesh Gowda, KSQ president; Subramanya Hebbagelu ICC vice-president; Rajini Murthy, MC-ICBF; ICC MC members Kamala Thakur and Afsal Majeed, and others.
The day's proceedings was steered by Harika.
A highlight of the evening was a motivational speech by chief guest Dhanaraj and an inspiring speech delivered by veteran toastmaster Varghese.
Another first was a proud moment and a big achievement by the ICC Youth Wing team, taking complete responsibility for conceptualising, planning and executing the event.
The entire event was led and co-ordinated by Dishari and Pallavi. The fashion show was led by Sadhana and Manjoth, singing teams were co-ordinated by Shyam Mohan Instrumental Music, Dileesh and Manjit, while vegetable carving and 'Best out of Waste' were led by Naveena Priya and Hashim. On the day of the event and as part of the preparations, Vinod, Nauful and Ashique continuously supported the activities.
The majority of performers were first-timers on ICC or similar platforms. Songs, dance recitals, instrumental music by Chenda Melam, Tamil Parai dance, fashion show, vegetable carving, and 'Best out of Waste' were the main attractions of the day.
The winners were presented with mementos and participants with certificates. Shyam Mohan presented the vote of thanks.
