The Indian Sports Centre (ISC) kicked off its summer indoor activities by hosting its first-ever Carrom Championship last week, a statement said.
Over 50 professional Carrom players from Qatar participated in the Atlas-ISC Open Championship in the men's singles and doubles categories.



Chief guest and tournament sponsor Kevin Dias (CEO, Atlas India Qatar) kicked off the event with the first strike of the tournament, in the presence of ISC founder and patron member Manoj Megchiani, and John Desa (head of Carrom, Football & Hockey at ISC).
ISC president Dr Mohan Thomas congratulated the participants and gave away the trophies and prizes to the singles champion Abdul Salam and runner-up Kashif Shaikh, as well as to the doubles champions Khaleel Khan and Kashif Shaikh, and runners-up Mohsin Khan and Rashid Khan.
International Carrom referee Imtiaz Ahmed and his team of umpires supervised the tournament which was conducted as per International Carrom Federation rules, of which Qatar and India are members.
ISC sports general secretary Yawar Ali thanked Khaleel Khan (who represented India at the Carrom World Cup 2018 in Korea) and his team of volunteers for organising the event.
ISC intends to widely promote professional Carrom in Qatar in the coming months. ISC, an apex body under the Embassy of India, promotes sports and fitness to the community.
