More than 225 Indian expatriates donated blood at a camp organised by Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF) as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Indian independence and Qatar’s preparation for the FIFA World Cup.
The event was organised in association with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
Welcoming the gathering, QISF general secretary Mohammed Usman said the organisation will continue to support and strengthen HMC blood bank stock with such campaigns at regular intervals, considering blood has a shelf life of only 42 days from the date of collection.
QISF president Ayyub Ullal, who presided, reaffirmed the importance of donating blood and thanked the Indian community for their overwhelming response to the campaign.
Dr Thabriz Pasha, medical manager, paediatrics, HMC, in his keynote speech urged everyone to donate blood and explained that one unit of blood could benefit at least three patients if used as separate components.
Ullal, Indian Cultural Centre vice president Subramanya Hebbagelu and Highland Islamic Forum president Shafqat were among the blood donors.
Indian Community Benevolent Forum executive council member Sameer Vani, management committee member Dinesh Gowda, community leaders from various Indian states, representing many associations attended the function.
Indian Sports Centre president Dr Mohan Thomas visited the donors during the camp. QISF Kerala state general secretary Shaheer proposed a vote of thanks.
