The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has highlighted the work carried out at schools as part of the National Road Safety Strategy.
Hassan AlHamadi, head of the Highways Operation & Maintenance Section, said: "Ashghal always gives students’ safety high priority. We started with 10 schools in 2013 and today we have completed work on 541 schools, as part of the National Road Safety Strategy."
The statement came on the occasion of the start of the 2022/2023 academic year Sunday.
In a related infographic, Ashghal said safety measures are already in place around 541 out of 583 schools, or 93%.
The school zone safety measures are as follows:
* Medians and roundabouts to manage traffic flow
* Providing additional car parking slots
* Warning signs to alert motorists about the presence of a school
* Limiting the maximum speed to 30 km/h
* Speed humps with particular specifications to reduce speed
* Creating safe pedestrian paths
* Implementation and maintenance of special needs requirements on the road
* Red markings to alert drivers about school entrances
