Winners and participants honed their chess mastery in a rapid 10-minute tournament hosted by Filipino Chess Players League Qatar (FCPL) recently. Sponsored by Bitbank Global Qatar, the seven-round rapid chess competition saw participation by Filipino, Indian and Malaysian expatriates, aged four to 60 .
A 10-year-old Indian prodigy, Syed Abdulkader, emerged victorious among 42 competitors with an outstanding 6.5/7 performance and bagged QR1,000 and a trophy. Second and third places went to Aldrin Troy Eneria (Philippines) and Aaron Chua (Malaysia) who received trophies and QR750 and QR500, respectively.
Gold medal awards were also given to best performances in their age category: Best Women – Layna Mary Philip (India); Best Under 14-year-old – Filjohn Banquerigo (Philippines); Best Under 12-year-old: Johan Jobsy (India); and Best Under 10-year-old – Hishhannth Sundaresan (India).
FCPL Qatar adviser John Orven Tia and president Elmer Espiritu vowed to conduct more tournaments in the future with the continuing support of the sponsors and all expatriate communities in Qatar.
