Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, participated in the Korea-Arab Food Security Forum 2022, organised by the Korea-Arab Friendship Association in the Korean capital, Seoul. The ministry was represented at the forum by Director of the Food Security Department Dr Masoud Jarallah al-Marri, who gave a lecture on the Qatar food security strategy and how the food security system in the country responds to emergency conditions, which enabled Qatar to obtain the first Arab ranking and 24th globally in the Global Food Security Index.
The forum reviewed a number of presentations on food security strategies and challenges facing agricultural production, the most important of which being water scarcity, high temperatures and humidity. Korean companies and universities delivered presentations demonstrating scientific progress in the field of protected and smart agriculture, as well as closed agriculture, which are viewed as important solutions to the challenges facing agricultural development in the Arab region.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Dr al-Marri met with the Secretary-General of the Korean-Arab Friendship Association. They discussed possible aspects of co-operation between the Korean and Qatari sides, in light of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 in the field of smart farms and agricultural research, and also met with a number of representatives of Korean universities and agricultural companies to review ways to enhance co-operation and benefiting from advanced Korean technology in smart agriculture and closed agricultural systems.
