QatarDebate - a member of Qatar Foundation, has announced the names of 12 selected researchers to join the first cycle of the newly created fellowship programme. The 12 research projects are expected to contribute knowledge and create legacy in the field of debate and its related academic fields.
The winners of this cycle of the fellowship programme include a distinguished researchers in academia. The category of ‘Expert Associate’ includes Dr Jonas M Elbousty, professor of Language Studies at Yale University, Dr Pierre Boulos, associate professor of Critical Thinking at the University of Windsor, Canada, Dr Abdul Gabbar al-Sharafi, associate professor of Translation Studies at Sultan Qaboos University and Dr Fadoua El Heziti, professor of higher education for Andalusian Studies at the University of Hassan II in Morocco.
Ali al-Zawqari, a candidate for a doctorate in artificial intelligence, Mohamed Baaoum, a faculty member at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and the researcher in Islamic heritage, and Abdussamet Kocak from Sultan Mehmet al-Fatih University in Istanbul are the other selected researchers.
An additional five fellowship fellows from young researchers with distinguished competencies were also admitted to the fellowship programme in order to empower and encourage them to submit qualitative research work in the field of debate. They are international relations specialist Moez Dhahri from Tunisia, lecturer in logic Mohamed Komat from India, Georgetown University graduate Mohamed Elokda from the United States, in addition to Rashid al-Rumaihi, a former Annabi debate member and anthropologist at the University of Sussex from Qatar, and Delini Hurley, a Harvard University student.
The launch of the first cycle of the Qatar Debate Fellowship is an important step in the direction of expanding Qatar Debate’s initiatives towards academia and research following the success and excellence of its educational projects and international championships.
