Purple Island boasts a fascinating history, the website says. "Once a temporary campsite for trade with Bahrain and used by fishermen and pearl divers, it’s home to some fascinating ruins, as well as a wide variety of birds and marine animals."
The island is located in the Al Khor-Al Thakhira area north of Doha.
According to information available online, the island owes its name to an ancient purple dye producing site. Besides the mangroves, other key attractions of the island include small animals and migratory birds, with the latter visiting the place during the winter months.
