Tanzanian official hails Qatar's mediation role

Tanzanian Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Co-operation Fatma Mohamed Rajab stressed the importance of the roles played by Qatari diplomacy in mediating, resolving disputes by peaceful means and enhancing dialogue in various regions around the world, including Africa.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Rajab commended the Qatari efforts to bring peace and reduce conflicts, adding that the world grew further interconnected and interdependent. She urged Qatar to continue mediation efforts until the world becomes free of conflicts as people worldwide need and deserve to live in peace and in countries free of disputes.Rajab hailed Qatar's humanitarian, development and relief approaches, as a leading country that provides aid to African countries amid disasters and crises, as well as its assistance in fields of education, health and small, medium and micro enterprises, stressing that the development aid provided by Qatar plays a crucial role in supporting economic, social and political sectors as well as mitigating poverty in developing countries. Hailing the excellent Qatari-Tanzanian relations, she said that diplomatic relations between the two countries were launched in December 1982 and Qatar opened its embassy in Dar-es-Salaam in 2012, while Tanzania opened its embassy in Doha in 2017.Rajab added that she was the first Tanzanian ambassador in Doha, and that the commercial relations and common maritime customs and traditions further deepened historical and people-to-people ties between both countries. She added that Qatar's globally-oriented development projects and trade and investment exchange made it in further harmony with Africa and particularly with Tanzania.She highlighted plans to develop and boost bilateral trade and investment exchange, particularly in sectors of livestock and tourism, in light of the positive co-operation the entire Arab world, including Qatar, is seeking to enhance with Africa as its strategic depth and natural extension. Rajab said that based on the 2014 labour agreement between Qatar and Tanzania, there are ongoing meetings to enable both sides to discuss regulations that ensure the efficient employment of Tanzanian workers.She expressed her admiration and support for all the reforms made by Qatar regarding legislations and laws regulating work, especially as it delivers a message to all labour-exporting countries that their nationals will work in a better, fully protected environment. On FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Rajab stressed that Qatar is set to make history, not only by hosting the tournament but also because it's the smallest country in terms of area and the first from the Middle East region to host a such great event. This event will allow visitors to enjoy watching matches, besides the country's hospitality, Arabic culture and tradition. (QNA)
