The Qatari-Swiss Joint Committee held its first session in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, under the chairmanship of HE the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari and Swiss Minister of Finance Ueli Maurer.
During the session, the Qatari-Swiss Joint Committee reviewed economic development, digital finance and sustainable finance. A number of joint ventures and a range of proposals and scenarios to enhance cooperation and encourage joint investments in the fields of energy, tourism, and banking were also discussed.

This new partnership paves the way for co-operation in the formulation of proposals on strengthening and promoting financial and economic relations between the two friendly countries, as well as the exchange and co-ordination of various aspects of cooperation.
On the sidelines of the joint committee deliberations, HE the Minister of Finance met with his Swiss counterpart, where they discussed a number of projects, in addition to a set of proposals and visions to enhance co-operation between the two countries.
The ministerial meeting was followed by the technical committee's programme, which included the financial and economic aspects, chaired by the Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, Dr Saud Abdullah al-Attiyah. On the other hand, the Swiss side was chaired by Minister of State for International Financial Affairs Daniela Stoffel.
HE the Minister also met with Guy Parmelin, head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research; and Thomas J Jordan, chairman of the governing board of the Swiss National Bank.
The delegation of Qatar participating in the Qatari-Swiss Committee at its first session included a number of senior officials of government and private entities, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, QatarEnergy, Investment Promotion Agency, General Tax Authority, Public Works Authority, Katara Hospitality, Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Chamber and Qatar Airways.
The convening of the Qatari-Swiss Committee comes after Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Finance, signed an MoU with the Swiss Federal Council, represented by the Federal Finance Department, in March 2022, on co-operation to establish a Joint Committee on Financial and Economic Fields, with the aim of developing relations between the two countries. Joint meetings are held alternately in the two countries.
