Throwing tissues, waste, empty packages or spitting on sidewalks, roads, or in public places is a violation punishable by law, the Ministry of Municipality has reiterated.
Violations of the Public Hygiene Law invites imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months and a fine not exceeding QR10,000 or either of the two, the ministry reminded in a tweet on Monday.
Article 2 of Law No. 18 of 2017 that deals with public hygiene prohibits throwing, leaving or disposing waste in public places, squares, roads, streets, corridors, alleys, sidewalks, squares, gardens, public parks, sea beaches, vacant lands, rooftops, walls, balconies, skylights, corridors, yards and facades. The same rule applies with houses, buildings, the parking lots of these buildings, the sidewalks adjacent to them, and other places, whether public or private.
“Spitting is prohibited in public places, squares, roads, streets, lanes, alleys, sidewalks, squares, parks, public parks and sea beaches,” Article 2 states. Anyone who violates the provisions of Article (2) of this Law shall be punishable by imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months and a fine not exceeding QR 10,000 or either of the two.
