Some of the underlying causes of low back pain and sciatica, are surgical, and require the proper intervention.

Low back and sciatica are two very common symptoms, which most people will complain of at some point of their lives.

The underlying cause of such symptoms can vary from a simple muscle spasm, or a ligament tear, caused by a wrong movement, to other more serious issues, like a herniated disc, or a fracture of the spine, or abnormal movement between the vertebrae.

Aman Hospital provides a multidisciplinary team approach in dealing with these symptoms, by collaboration between Neurosurgery, Neurology, Rheumatology, and Physiotherapy departments, to make the proper diagnosis, and provide the fastest most efficient least invasive method of treatment.

Most of the reasons behind such complaints are usually treated medically, either by rheumatology or by physiotherapy.

However, some of the underlying causes of low back pain and sciatica, are surgical, and require the proper intervention. The Neurosurgery Department at Aman Hospital, led by Dr Tarek Sunna’ offers these patients the minimally invasive surgical technique, where surgeries are done through a small (1- 2 cm) incisions, for less damage to muscle, and less blood loss, and a shorter stay in the hospital and a faster recovery, and this also allows, for some operations in certain candidates to be done under simple local anesthesia.

Such surgeries can be offered for disc herniations, spine fractures, either traumatic or osteoporotic, and for nerve compressions that require decompression, all of which can be done through the MIS technique, where patients can be discharged home the second day.

Dr. Tarek Sunna’, is the Head of Neurosurgery Division at Aman hospital,

He is certified from the Arab board of Neurosurgery, and European board of Neurosurgery, and he is a fellow of the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh, and the American College of Surgeons, and is the first international surgical advisor to the Royal College of Edinburgh in the Middle East. He is an expert in complex spine surgery, and oncology of the spine, and the latest minimally invasive techniques in spine surgery.
