The 4th edition of Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF) was inaugurated Monday at Katara - The Cultural Village by general manager Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti.
The event featuring more than 600 artworks by 300 artists from 65 countries is organised by Katara in co-operation with MAPS International. It also hosts a number of art workshops, panel discussions, musical performances, cultural night, and an awards ceremony on September 30.
QIAF 2022 activities are taking place at Katara’s building 18 and 19, and their surrounding areas, including building 15.
In a statement, Prof al-Sulaiti said Katara is pleased to organise this festival, which includes a large group of artists from different art schools and countries, representing diverse cultures and civilisations.
“This indicates that Katara has succeeded in being a meeting place for creators and a bridge of communication between peoples,” he said, noting that such initiatives enrich the cultural scene in Qatar and play a key role in revitalising the artistic movement, exchanging experiences between artists, and learning about each other's experiences.
MAPS International founder and president Rashmi Agarwal thanked Katara for hosting this international event, which provides a professional platform for artists in Qatar and various countries of the world, in addition to bringing together under one umbrella an elite group of experts, critics, academics and artists.
According to Katara, QIAF represents a true international artistic event since it includes creative works and distinguished artistic participation by a wide selection of artists from Qatar and different countries from around the world, showcasing real talents and exchanging experiences and ideas.
The latest edition of QIAF, which seeks to integrate arts with football and sports, is characterised by the participation of 12 international galleries from Qatar, United Kingdom, Spain, India, Sweden, Iran, UAE, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and China.
The inauguration on Monday was attended by several artists and enthusiasts, ambassadors from different embassies in Doha, and other guests.
