Qatar advanced to the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2023 after a 4-1 victory over Lebanon confirmed them as winners of Group C of the Qualifiers in Muscat on Sunday. The result took Qatar to an unassailable 10 points, with hosts Oman playing Iraq late last night. Having defeated Oman 2-1 on Friday, Qatar knew a win would confirm their spot in the Finals and they enjoyed a dream start with forward Tahsin Mohamed Alhagri giving them the lead in the eighth minute. Qatar, however, had to wait till the second half to widen their advantage with substitute Ahmad Nasirmahmood scoring their second in the 63rd minute. Defender Ali Mohamed Shahabi scored their third in the 68th minute. An own goal by Rashid Muneer Mazeeq in the 74th minute gave Lebanon a glimmer of hope only for Esmail Musaed Alahrak to score Qatar’s fourth in the 80th to emphatically confirm their position as the group winners.
