QatarDebate Centre, a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, has announced the launch of the Master's programme in the art of debate in comparative jurisprudence in partnership with the Tunisian University of Ez-Zitouna.
In a statement, the centre said the first batch of students of the programme has embarked upon its first lectures in the Higher Institute of Islamic Civilization in Kairouan within the framework of the qualitative partnership agreement between the centre and the university with the aim of re-employing the debating science rooted in Islamic heritage in the educational process and the study of Islamic sciences. The Master's programme offers integration between the art of debate and the tools involved in critical thinking and interaction with issues of comparative jurisprudence in contemporary societies.The first batch comprises 20 male and female students, ranging from international students to local students from Tunisia.The statement said the programme duration will be two academic years, comprising four semesters, and is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Tunisia.The programme allows students to study the fields of comparative jurisprudence, debate, reasoning, criticism, philosophy and logic in the first three semesters.Commenting on the programme, the Executive Director of QatarDebate Centre, Dr Hayat Abdullah Marafi, said that debating an authentic science in the Arab and Islamic heritage will indubitably open a door for the students and researchers in Islamic studies to revive this art through the excellent co-operation with the University of Ez-Zitouna.Dr Mohamed al-Habib al-Alani, Director of the Higher Institute of Islamic Sciences in Kairouan, expressed hope that this programme would facilitate students to delve deeper into this delicate specialisation.
