In recognition of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's prestigious position to Kazakh people and leadership and as an expression of pride in the solid relations between the two countries and their friendly peoples, the Amir was awarded the Order of the Golden Eagle "Altyn Qyran" — Kazakhstan's highest order awarded to the heads of friendly countries — by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the ceremony that took place on Wednesday in the presidential palace "Aq Orda" in Astana.
The Order of the Golden Eagle "Altyn Qyran" is the highest and biggest of all Kazakhstan's state orders and awards.
The order was established in 1995 and the president chooses whom to be awarded such a high-level order.
The order is awarded to individuals in recognition of their significant contribution to Kazakhstan's national development.
The order is also awarded to presidents and leaders of foreign countries, who left historical imprints and achieved positive results in deepening the friendly relations between their countries and Kazakhstan.
The order represents a gold medal that includes a five-pointed star with rounded ends and in its heart a circle with the shape of an eagle, made of genuine gold, beneath which is the Kazakh phrase "Altyn Qyran."
The eagle is one of the most significant birds in Kazakh culture and its image adorns the country's flag.
