HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Qassim al-Thani said that ties between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Turkiye have improved to a level of partnership, integration, and co-ordination in all fields.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry added that the two countries' shared vision on all regional and international issues reflected positively on the volume of trade exchange and fruitful and constructive economic co-operation.
His Excellency highlighted trade volume saw significant growth last year, reaching $1.8bn in 2021 to reflect the level co-ordination and commitment to co-operation between the two countries.
HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry indicated that trade exchange grew by 80% from 2014-2021, adding that both sides are working to increase it above $5bn in the coming years.
the main Qatari exports to Turkiye include unprocessed aluminium, liquefied gas and plastic products.
While the most important imports from Turkiye come in the fields of building supplies, electrical and electronic equipment, furniture, carpets, building materials, jewellery, and dairy products.
His Excellency revealed that one of the most prominent memoranda of understanding to be signed during this session of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee is a memorandum of understanding for co-operation in the field of property rights protection between the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the State of Qatar and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in the Turkish Republic.
As for the Turkish companies operating in the State of Qatar, His Excellency said that as many as 794 Turkish companies operate in Qatar, including 758 with Qatari-Turkish joint capital and about 36 companies with 100% Turkish capital.
These companies operate in various vital sectors in the country, including infrastructure, contracting and construction, engineering consultancy, trade, electrical works, auto parts, foodstuffs and other important sectors, His Excellency said, adding that Qatar also hosts annually the 'Expo Turkey by Qatar', with the participation of hundreds of Turkish companies willing to work in the Qatari market.
Established in 2014, the Turkish-Qatari Supreme Strategic Committee has helped enhance relations between the two friendly countries to broader horizons at all levels, HE the minister said, pointing out that since the establishment of the committee, more than 68 agreements and six joint communiques have been signed in the fields of economy, industry, defence, security, investment, energy, culture, intellectual property, education, youth, economy and other vital areas of co-operation.
His Excellency added that the Supreme Strategic Committee contributes not only to strengthening bilateral relations, but it also contributes to the convergence of views in foreign policy, as well as in various vital common areas between the two countries.
Among the sectors that have been focused on in recent years are trade, investment, international trade, tourism, civil aviation, transportation, science, culture, health, free zones, and water resources management.
HE the minister said that the exceptional ties of friendship and brotherhood between Doha and Ankara necessitate the continuation of work and close co-ordination for further trade and investment co-operation, adding that both countries pledge to work on exploring ways to support diversification of economic relations and trade co-ordination between them, especially in the Knowledge-based economy on advanced technology.
His Excellency also said that within the framework of implementing development plans and economic diversification to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, the state seeks to open wider horizons for trade and investment exchange with its strategic partners, and there are future projects beyond the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
