40,000-50,000 passengers expected to use Mowasalat buses during World Cup

 

 

 

Mowasalat (Karwa) has projected that its bus services will have a ridership of 40,000-50,000 per day during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In a post on Twitter, the company stressed that Tournament Bus Services (TBS) would be run by staff from all over the world, "prepared to bring people and fans together".The TBS will feature a workforce of around 12,000 individuals, including drivers, ground staff and operational staff members. Also, the company said 1,169 is the highest number of planned buses commuting for a specific service.The company recently held a trial run of around 1,300 buses that ran trips in and around Doha. The trial run was connected to transporting football fans, arriving for the mega event running from November 20 to December 18, around Doha and between the eight stadiums across Qatar. The initiative came as part of Mowasalat (Karwa)’s efforts to prepare its drivers to ‘Deliver Amazing’ during the World Cup.Qatar has implemented an advanced network to facilitate movement and transportation and provide safe, smooth and easy-to-reach transportation services for all fans and all groups attending the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and its accompanying events.As part of this, Qatar has made massive arrangements to ensure smooth and extensive public transport operations during the World Cup. These include bus services, the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram.The championship buses will provide rapid transport service from Metro stations, Park & Ride, rapid transfer services for stadiums between five bus complexes (Souq Waqif, Fan Festival sites, West Bay, Umm Bishr, Barwa Madinatna and Barwa Barahat Al Janoub) and the eight stadiums, in addition to transportation services to and from accommodation sites and to and from airports.In April this year, Hamad Port received 130 electric buses, which marked the last batch of a total of 741 units Qatar had ordered for the World Cup. The fleet will be fully operated by Mowasalat (Karwa) and embedded in the country’s public transit system, thus creating a lasting legacy of clean-energy mass transit after the championship, according to the Ministry of Transport.During 2022, electric buses will be used for metrolink services. They will also be used on public transit routes that will basically operate in Doha, in addition to deploying them in Lusail City and Al Khor. The fleet of electric buses comes in the context of supporting the execution of the action plan as part of the strategy to transition to electric vehicles that the ministry has developed in association with the bodies concerned. The full delivery of Qatar’s electric bus order is setting the stage for transforming 25% of the bus fleet of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to electric.
