The Ministry of Education and Higher Education said that about 40 percent of the teachers in Qatar obtained professional licenses, stressing in a related context its keenness to raise the performance level of teachers and student achievement through the application of many systems and programs, including Professional Licensing System for teachers and school leaders.
In a press statement, the Director of Teachers Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Ahmad Al Jesaimani said that the professional licenses for teachers are a quality mark that is granted after careful evaluation of the practice, ensuring that it meets the national professional standards, as there is a close link between the professional license and job promotion.
He noted that the professional licenses also aim to improve the academic performance of students in a sustainable manner by systematically and continuously raising the effective performance of the teaching and leadership staff. He pointed out that teachers' licenses are divided into three levels, and those concerned with coordinators are divided into two levels. In this regard, he reviewed the conditions for applying for this license and the licensing process.
He pointed out that the Ministry is working on the "Tamkeen" training program organized by the Educational Training and Development Center for the seventh year in a row, in cooperation with the Teachers Affairs Department, which targets newly employed teachers with expertise from inside the country and outside from various Arab countries, indicating that there is a founding program concerned with qualifying candidates to become a teacher for those who do not have an educational qualification or who do not have teaching experience from Qatar University and local universities graduates, providing them with the necessary professional competencies.
The Director of Teachers Affairs Department indicated that the Ministry also offers "Tamheen" training program to encourage and attract Qatari graduates to the teaching profession, by providing an opportunity for those who are interested and have a passion for this profession.
He touched on the conditions for employing Qataris and the privileges granted to them by the Ministry, the conditions for attracting distinguished teachers from outside Qatar who have experience and competence in teaching educational curricula, and the awareness campaigns organized by the Ministry in targeting high school students and the College of Education to encourage Qatari youth to join the teaching profession by emphasizing its importance, role, and position in the community, as well as to join the Ministry's Tumooh scholarship program, which allows secondary certificate holders to join the teaching profession after graduating from the College of Education at Qatar University. He also underlined the Ministry's cooperation with the organizers of the "Teach for Qatar" initiative, which aims to qualify graduates and professionals to work in Government schools with no prior teaching experience, as well as the Ministry's cooperation with the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau to qualify Qatari graduates from outside the College of Education, enrolling them in the "Tamheen" training program, for those who applied to work through the national employment platform "Kawader".
