The head of the Qatar-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Algerian People's National Assembly, Yahi Ali, has said bilateral relations are witnessing remarkable development at various levels thanks to the directives of the wise leaderships of the two countries.
In a statement to QNA, Ali noted Qatar's support for Algeria in the success of the Arab Summit in its 31st regular session, in a manner that serves joint Arab action. He praised the stances of Qatar in support of Arab causes and solidarity.
He said that Qatar, in all circumstances and transformations in the region, has played an important and pivotal role in supporting Arab causes and strengthening Arab solidarity in facing various challenges, similar to its honourable positions in support of the Palestinian cause, which are the same positions that Algeria adopts.
On the Qatari-Algerian Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ali explained that this group was established this year as one of the mechanisms to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations, by intensifying meetings between the Shura Council and the Algerian People's National Assembly.
He pointed out that Qatar-Algeria relations will remain solid in light of the strong momentum they are witnessing at various levels, including the parliamentary level, especially since the two countries have a distinct parliamentary experience that has developed over decades.
He praised the gradual steps of parliamentary work in Qatar, which culminated in the holding of the Shura Council elections last year, for the first time in its history, describing it as an important step towards consolidating popular participation.
Ali said: "We are very keen to strengthen relations with the Shura Council in a way that enhances parliamentary co-operation at various levels."
He stated that he received an invitation from the Shura Council to visit Qatar in the coming months, to discuss ways to enhance co-operation between the two councils, and to study a work project to activate the friendship group and to start joint co-operation to exchange parliamentary experiences and ideas and raise the level of co-ordination in international forums.
He also praised Qatar's interest in investments in Algeria, which has become the first Arab country in terms of investments that exceed 74% of the total volume of Arab investments.
He noted that they are qualitative investments similar to the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company, Arad Telecom Group, and other fields, given the currently attractive investment environment.
With regard to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Ali stressed that the Algerian people supports this hosting, and said, "We are proud of Qatar hosting this event, and of these preparations, which are praised by the relevant federations and organisations."
He said that the World Cup is expected to be exceptional and historic in light of the huge preparations for this global football event, which is being held for the first time in an Arab country. (QNA)
