* Special screenings to celebrate Qatar-Menasa Year of Culture 2022

The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has unveiled a spectacular cultural showcase of events to mark the Doha Film Experience, to be held across the city from Nov 24 to Dec 17.
The programme will pay tribute to the nation as it hosts the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, welcoming residents and visitors to a showcase of family-friendly cinema and fun activities.
The Doha Film Experience will be held across several key venues in the city including M7’s Sky Theatre, Qatar Foundation’s Oxygen Park and the venues of the D’reesha Performing Arts Festival 2022, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), Heenat Salma Farm, Sikkat Wadi Msheireb and Vox Cinemas Doha Festival City.
In a press statement, DFI CEO Fatma Hassan Alremaihi said: “This is a magical time when the world’s eyes are on Qatar. As the world journeys to our nation to celebrate the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, we give our community and visitors a very special opportunity to also celebrate our thriving film, art and music culture in an amazing lineup of experiences."
M7’s Sky Theatre and Qatar Foundation’s Oxygen Park, as part of the D’reesha Performing Arts Festival 2022, are home to a series of internationally acclaimed and awarded short films by Qatar-based filmmakers from DFI’s ever-popular Made in Qatar programme. D’reesha Performing Arts Festival is also hosting the Cinema Under the Stars programme, featuring critically-acclaimed titles from around the world and a compelling shorts programme from Palestine as part of the Qatar-Menasa Year of Culture activities.
A celebration of the landmark Qatar-Menasa Year of Culture 2022, the Doha Film Experience’s gripping feature series, ‘Making the Iraqi New Wave’, will be held at MIA alongside the thought-provoking ‘Baghdad: Eye’s Delight’ exhibition.
The films present new context around Iraqi cinematic history and the unique experiences that have formed today’s common reality in Iraq; and a captivating selection of short and feature films from the latest and greatest voices in Menasa independent cinema.
Film lovers can enjoy a unique outdoor cinema experience at the pastoral Heenat Salma Farm, where a delightful programme of classic, family, and football-inspired films will be screened. Indoor screenings of an irresistible slate of contemporary shorts will take place at VOX Cinemas Doha Festival City.
Sikkat Wadi Msheireb plays host to a fascinating multimedia exhibition, ‘Intaj’, which traces the remarkable origins of Qatar’s film, television, and theatre movements and influence on contemporary culture.
Qatar’s largest pop culture event, Geekdom, has moved its celebration of all things nerdy to brain-central this year — Education City, Doha. The live concert series Ajyal Tunes also returns and forms part of the D’reesha Performing Arts Festival to round off a programme of creativity and culture this winter.
