3,000 e-scooters to be launched across Qatar

As many as 3,000 e-scooters will be launched across various locations in Qatar by Bird Micromobility Company in Qatar in collaboration with Qetaifan Island North Project, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), Mowasalat, Madeen Al Doha and Snoonu. Addressing a launch event Tuesday, Jonathan Adler, senior public policy in city growth and strategy at Bird, said the easily accessible ride, and environment-friendly transportation solution will go beyond the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and further expand based on the assessment of the actual demand.The launch of these scooters will help in giving the users the option for easy ways for maximising their daily commutes and mobility without any negative impacts on the environment and with a minimal cost, he explained. Adler said that the 3,000 Bird e-Scooters will be deployed across more than 100 different locations giving people convenient rides to the adjacent places including the fans zones, metro stations, and the different stadiums in collaboration with the SC. The scooters are custom-made and designed by the company's engineers based on millions of actual customers' experiences to enhance and prioritise safety. Further, users will enjoy customer live support and service 24/7. The company will ensure that all the e-scooters are in good condition and any unit showing signs of a potential breakdown, will be locked from rental, pulled out for maintenance and replaced with a working one. Adler stressed that the e-scooters are monitored by the company's system all the time to ensure their validity for operation. Regarding the possibility of redistributing the scooters across various locations based on the density of demand, he stressed that the company can deploy more scooters at different points and redistribute them at any time based on the instant assessment of the demand."We highly encourage our customers to abide by the rules and safety standards and wear helmets as they use the scooters. Besides, the top speed of our scooters is locked at a maximum of 20 km/h. They have multiple sensors and GPS system to monitor everything and track them, in addition to the electronic stability system that keeps the balance of the rider at all time," explained Adler. The e-scooters are linked to a mobile phone application, with which the users locate them, unlock and lock them and book one in advance as well. At the start of the ride the user can scan with the app a QR code on the bike and scan it again at the end of the ride. There are multiple options for rentals starting with a short ride for QR2, and up to a day pass, with the rental rates varying accordingly. The representatives for the collaborators in the project stressed their full support to the initiative and expected more expansion in the future as the country is heading for a cleaner and brighter future in all fields.
