Three individuals have been arrested for the illegal resale of World Cup tickets.
"The security authorities arrested three people of different nationalities for reselling FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tickets outside the official platforms specified for that and approved by FIFA and the host country, thus violating Article No. 19 of Law No. 10/ 2021," the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on social media.
The article stipulates that FIFA has the sole and exclusive right to issue, sell, distribute and resell tickets, and it is not permitted to issue, sell, resell, redistribute or exchange tickets without a licence from FIFA or its authorised representative.
The accused have been referred to the competent authorities for further legal procedures, the MoI said.
The authorities concerned have called on the public to abide by the laws and procedures in force that regulate the process of reselling tickets to avoid the penalties stipulated in Article 38, paragraph 2, of the same law.
It states that anyone who violates the ruling of Article 19/second paragraph of this law shall be punished with a fine of not exceeding QR250,000.
The penalty shall be multiplied by the number of tickets involved in the violation. In all cases, the court shall order the confiscation of the violating materials.
